The Department of Philosophy understands itself as a lively place for committed philosophical research and intensive philosophical teaching.

With her Master’s thesis in the M.A. Philosophy program, Sarah Heide has been awarded the Claudia Huerkamp Award for Master’s Theses 2025 of the Faculty of History, Philosophy, and Theology. The thesis is titled “Parentification as a Problem for Filial Responsibility. An Ethical Assessment of the Situation of Children in Families with Struggling Parents.” In it, she addresses the question of whether children should take on responsibility for their parents when the parents are no longer able to care for themselves and their children in an outstanding way. This is the second time Sarah Heide has received the faculty’s award for final theses.
The Department of Philosophy warmly congratulates her on this exceptional achievement.
Prof. Dr. Martin Carrier was awarded the title of doctor honoris causa from the University of Athens. He recived the title in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to Philosophy of Science by the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Athens.
